And I'm Thinking,

    follow me on Twitter

    And Your Point is?

Hello again, I think my posts are becoming more of a weekly thing. I can barely find the time to squeeze in updates and more importantly, think of ideas to blog about. Well, semester 1 is coming to an end and my finals are coming. As cliche as it may seem, I'm not ready for my finals but whatever lah. That's the way life works. You're never really ready for anything big that comes your way. This is going to be a long post, so try staying with me.

Few years back, I pondered upon the sole purpose of going for higher education and studying in general. I was form 5, probably revising and I asked my tuition teacher, "Sir, what's the point of studying? I'm probably never gonna really use all this crap in real life, anyway." He said, " well, good point, but you need it to enter college."

So, I just took his words lightly and continued doing my work. Recently, (well not so recent lah, it was probably some time during our break between the end of f5 and pre-university, even if you call it that) I thought about what he said and I figured, what's the point of the knowledge then? after college, then university, then Masters then Doctorate? (for you retards, f5 is a.k.a year 11, lol)

Some of you might say, it's the degree la, it's that piece of paper that you pay for. That piece of pressurized wood (or whatever) that says that Mr. Bla Bla (and normally, they screw your name up) has achieved a Bachelor of Science (Medicinal Chemistry) from HooHaa University. The certificate, basically. You get the certificate that will certainly give you that push in the youth of your career. Well, if you plan on focusing your career on research then of course you need what you learn in university.

But, I'm assuming you Malaysians want money, that's why you take courses that are soo hard, just to get better job prospects and kill yourself in Year 1 itself xD. Okay, okay, I'll cut it out, you MBBS/Eng students, lol. Most of us aren't even gonna use what we learn coz we don't get as much money in research as in other fields. Plus, research is very stressful, hours and hours of studies might lead to nothing.

Here it is, in the university, the lecturers expect us to be independent and not spoon feed us. The interesting part of the universities is the "coursework" part - not the final exams. The coursework, the labs, projects and assignments are sections where we analyse our problems, critically think, evaluate and solve them. It's a skill that is VERY important. Invaluable in fact, anyone can understand that 1+1=2 and what happens when demand exceeds supply in a FOREX market - but not learn.

Am i getting to you? If you were to learn, you'd know how to answer 1+2 and what would happen if supply exceeds demand - providing that 1+2 and if the idea of supply exceeding demand wasn't introduced to you initially. Okay, wait. How do I explain this.

If i were to tell you as demand exceeds supply in the FOREX market, the currency of a nation would appreciate. Now, tell me what would happen if it was the other way around? ASSUMING you didn't learn this already. You'd say that it would depreciate, huh? Well, smart guess, you're right. There, that's learning. Solving problems, critical thinking and all.

In coursework, our lecturers gives us a project/assignment/lab report and expects us to encounter any problems by using our brain to analyse, critically derive a reason, bla bla. Get what I mean? So, with that skill, depending on how well you master it, it gives you a boost in climbing the corporate ladder. With better problem solving skills, people want you to work for them - duh! Throughout all the major disciplines - Science, Bus. Admin, Arts, etc. , we use our brains to solve problems and be independent learners.

    To sum it all up.
Important = problem solving, critical thinking, analytical ability, independence.

    Not so important
    a) what you learn in facts (Rydberg equation, integration, film noir, Hund's Rule etc.),
    b) what you major in. (but of course, your major has to differ in the same discipline. Eg. Chem. Eng, Elec. Eng are both from Eng. You can't compare BA and BSc - totally different disciplines)
Another way of putting it, its harder (not impossible) to enter a law firm with a degree in Biotechnology.

Thanks for tuning in guys, hope you enjoyed my post. AND I can't wait for semester break. For everyone having their finals soon, good luck!

'Coz you're not only visual candy,
    ColiNgeow.

    Then Why'd You Ask?

Holy shit, there are so many mosquitoes that are hovering around me. There have been a lot near my area recently. Random. Okay, how's your week been? Reflect. Are your finals drawing to a close? Your end-of-year semester exam's just around the corner? Mid years? Cramming your head through your summer break? Got closer to resolutions you've set?

You know what? I don't really give a shit. How do you feel now? haha. Well, I, fellow readers, I DO give a shit. In other words, I care about what you guys think what makes the world go round, lol. I assume you go to school, or work or to wherever that you frequently visit. And, no man being an island, haha, you of course make colleagues, coursemates, classmates, schoolmates - that kinda shit.

Walking to your cubicle/lecture/library, you brush shoulders with someone more than an acquaintance but less than a friend. You know, more than hi-bye but too uncomfortable to hang out with? haha. Well, it's not the hardest thing to do wave at them - although sometimes they don't wave back and it can turn out retarded. Or you could just walk up to them and engage in a conversation.

    Colin : Hey man.
    Random : Hello.
Colin : *smiles* No class ah? Taking your time and all.
Random : Got lah, but I'll be going late. You?
Colin : Chemistry at 10. Freaking damn lazy to go lah.
Random : Haha, tute or lecture?
Colin : Tute la, lectures retarded la, sometimes you learn nothing.
Random : ........*plays with phone*/*looks in wallet and counts money*.. yeah.
Colin : Eh, dude, I chao lah, lecture starting soon.

Experienced that situation before? Well, I have, not recently though. It's rude that people do that. I mean, you do that to avoid being rude la, right? But if you do that then wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of talking shit from the start? It becomes even more obnoxious when you do that, retard. You try being friendly and start a meaningless conversation (although, that's what most people do most of the time, or at least I do). But if you're not gonna f*cking listen, then why'd you ask in the first place?

It shows that you're just asking for the sake of asking and not really bother. Okay, fine. Sometimes the world seems the way we want it to be. Like in these conversations, just ACT as if you're listening, coz it kinda pleases the other person and doesn't seem so rude. Even if you're not really comprehending and/or processing what you're taking in. After all, who's gonna recall a meaningless conversation over what you had for lunch? or if your dog took a shit in the house?

IF and IF it was important, it would already stand out and you'd remember. Well, basically, some people don't really give two hoots about your problems or your life story - unless it's interesting OR unless you guys are already friends. This is my take on life, though. It's a selfish world, people rule it with their hedonistic needs. That's pretty much how the world works at times. Dog eat dog world.

Have a good week ahead! And don't worry, the world and life functions in so many different and possible ways - many good and bad. Hope you've enjoyed reading. Thanks to the colingeow.blogspot.com faithful.

A Little Less Conversation, Little More Action?

To whoever is reading this post, Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Night. Depends lah, what time you're reading this.Haha, how's your week been? Was it bad? Good? Finished your assigned workload? Talked to that special someone? Made your parents mad/happy/proud? Would you tell me about it? Would you tell anyone?

Friends, aquantainces and companions talk and converse daily about almost everything and anything. Except for things that bother them the most deep deep inside. It's ironic really, if it bothers them so much, why not just talk about it? Well, yeah. That jolly well makes enough sense, right? By this point, you should already realize that everything in life does not really have to make sense. It doesn't? It has to make sense? Wake up then.

If what bothers them really bothers them, then wouldn't what is bothering them define them as what they are as people? Am I making any sense? It's pretty hard to explain lah.

Okay, I got it. What really troubles them is something personal, right? And exposing that would make them vulnerable. I think that's why people find it so hard to do talk about what really bothers them. Well, what's wrong with being vulnerable? Haha. You've all been in that position right? Where you've been vulnerable and hated it. Probably vulnerable emotionally? That's another story on its own that doesn't need telling at all to all you people, lol. (being through the emo teenage life you guys had/have)

I think why people don't like talking about their problems is because they don't want to be judged be people. Being vulnerable and then judged crushes someone's self-esteem, self-belief, moral values. It's harder to recuperate from crushing of emotions than of bones. Pain is just the body's way of telling you that something's wrong - both physical and emotional. And obviously, nobody wants anything wrong la, right?

We, as humans, are emotional. When we show our true colours, we don't want to be shot down by blatant, sharp remarks that chill to the very bone. Okay, fine. I was exaggarating lah, but you get the picture, right? No man is an island - or a woman at that. That's why I find it ironic how people just do not talk about what makes them tick deep inside - no matter how "picture perfect" their relationship is on the outside. By this point, you should already realize that everything in life does not really have to make sense initially.

    Have a good week ahead!
    ColiNgeow.

    I'm lacking material lah!

Sorry for the overdue blog post, I've been busy lah, okay? And now, I've got 2 essays due. I think I'll finish them up last minute lah. Should be okay, xD.
