And I'm Thinking,

    follow me on Twitter

    Expression.

Somewhere between my "Acoustic", My Chemical Romance and Silverstein playlists, I realize how much my music taste has changed over the years. Well, it hasn't changed since I was 14/15 but that's not really what I'm getting at. Different people enjoy different music. Music makes the world go round.

Why do different people enjoy different music? And why do some people just enjoy "anything that sounds good"? I've came up with a simple hypothesis. People that enjoy "anything that sounds good" are essentially, music lovers. They love listening to octaves and sexy rhythms that pleases their soul - if you may. Yeah, that's it.

What about people that enjoy only a certain genre of music? I'm assuming that that genre of music only incorporates certain "tunes" and lyrics where their listeners can relate to. Don't ask me about songs like "Crank That" or err "*insert bad song here*". I'm not sure how people can relate to being Superman and crap but hey, let people lead their lives lah.

Like for Norah Jones, she only plays certain type of music throughout her whole album(and possibly career). Same goes for other non-sellouts. Artistes that do not sell out keep their original style of music and genre, like duh! Emo music, being at its peak now (or is it?, i don't know) tells tales of problematic relationships, school, problems in life, generally.

People that experience hardship, euphoria or lust listen to music they can relate to. Even after that stage of their lives, depending on the severity/scale of their experience, people are more inclined to be stuck to that genre of music. Most of the time, the genre of music is determined during adolescence or the post-adolescence "era".

On a totally different note, there are them pop-punk bands(New Found Glory, Simple Plan, Blink 182) that everyone in high school seems to love. A good example. What are the lyrics to some of their songs? I'll give you a line or two.

New Found Glory - Dressed to Kill
"I know it's hard for you,
To understand what I'm going through.
But now I sit here to remind myself,
    You're always dressed to kill."

Simple Plan - God Must Hate Me
"Last night I had to study for this test
    I forgot man I'm dead
And now my brain is bursting out of, of my head
    I can't think I can't breathe."
Blink 182 - Story of a Lonely Guy
"She makes me feel like it's raining outside
And when the storm's gone I'm all torn up inside
I'm always nervous on days like this, like the prom.
    I get too scared to move, cause I'm a f***in' boy. "

Sounding vaguely familiar? High school-ers can relate to that type of music.
I nailed the examples, eh?! Hope I've enlightened you on why different people like
    different music.
"You're always, ALWAYS dressed to kill,"

    Emotion or Fact?

RE-cap. Life's just the way it's supposed to be, you know, simple giving and taking. Of course, everyone being selfish, always wanting to take. In the depths of my emo-ness, I mean.... During one of my lectures, lol, I realized that the attendance in the lecture hall was far from satisfactory. Maybe it's the way i'm brought up but isn't skipping class just plain rude? How would you feel if you were the lecturer?

Well, this leads to the topic of the post - Emotion or Fact. People who have a higher sense on control of their emotions tend to base their decisions on fact. And ultimately, people who are more emotionally-inclined tend to decide things with respect to their emotions. What would you do?

At this age, we're already capable of differentiating fact from emotion. Even so, people still tend to make mistakes in choices they're not supposed to be making. The reason would be not knowing the magnitude of the of the "fact" or "emotion" that's placed on the table. To put it blatantly, people can't measure the significance or consequences of picking "fact" or "emotion".

It's hard to go against your emotions at times, no? Let's say your pet dog wasn't looking to well - coughing blood, getting bald patches. You bring him/her to the vet and find out that s/he is terminally ill with NO chance of surviving. At the vet's, you find out that another dog is in need of a transplant in the next 5 hours. AND your dog's a compatible donor. What would you do?

The logical/factual thing would do is to give up your dog's life to save another, right? Since s/he's already dying anyway. But no, you wouldn't do that if you were in this situation. That's a basic concept of what my interpretation of "fact" versus "emotion". Well, I'm assuming you love your dog, lol. I'd use other examples but a dog's a fine one.

Another happens on a daily basis. After doing something wrong, you tell yourself "You already know it's wrong, why'd you have to go ahead and do it anyways?". Again, another case of "fact" vs "emotion". As I've said before, we don't know the magnitude of the situation that would rise if we were to pick "fact" or "emotion". Am i losing you guys? You guys get me, right?

My statements are biased towards choosing "fact" over "emotion" but at times, choosing the latter has its plus sides. Most of the time, however, "fact" prevails - after all, it IS fact. It just depends on the situation. I guess asking someone else for his/her opinion on things would be less biased when compared to you, yourself, making the selection.

To sum it all up, what I'm trying to say is to make proper choices in life and attempt to clear your thoughts in making decisions - no matter how minute. The factors might not only be fact and/or emotion. It could be other elements. Think critically. If you can't then try asking a friend. After all, what are friends but shoulders to lean on?

"Shot down my strangers whose glances can cripple",

    Perspectives on Judgement.

In the midst of completing, or rather, continuing my weekly dose of lab reports, I tend to work less efficiently under less pressure. Other people too, no? I'm gonna screw the lab reports and do some studying - that'll be more effective.

Well, I guess the fact that things like "don't worry lah, the lab report's due on weds, today only Sunday whaat" pop into my head, I have a reduced sense of urgency until the the very last few days. I guess it'll hit me on Monday, lol. I've already started actually, I guess I'll do it in the library tomorrow.

Back to the topic at hand. I've said it one too many times, and I'll say it again. "Different people have different perspectives on things." I'll put you in a situation and you determine what you'd do, kay?

Every month, you get a monthly allowance. If you finish it before the month's over then you're screwed. OR you could get a monthly allowance+cash for "emergencies". And, having not enough money as mentioned before, could be stated as an emergency. Which?

Let's say you're a parent and your child is in that situation. What would you do? Personally, I'd give him/her no extra cash for emergencies and make him/her learn that s/he has to use his/her money sparingly. So, the money I've passed to him/her is already inclusive of "emergencies". What would you do?

People that are brought up differently have different views. Let's use this as an example. Any particular student has a different mentality than any other given student. The only difference that discourages him/her from breaking the rules is obviously, his/her mentality.

Two basic inferences on mentalities can be derived.
    1. "I guess it's okay to break the rules if I don't get caught. But even if I do get caught, I'll just pay the price."
    2. "It's not right to break the rules, it's the principle of breaking the rules that is wrong."
Same thing if a thief that commits theft, no duh! It's okay if I steal. It's okay if I kill. That's just the way life is. It's karma. I'll pay for it later, I don't mind. I'm not sure what's the driving force that propels different mentalities. Society, environmental factors, yes?

I've contemplated on what the sources could be and I've arrived at a conclusion. It's how retarded your childhood was, lol. If your parents raised you saying "stealing and killing is perfectly fine - just don't get caught get or you'll have to suffer the consequences if you did". Yes, this sounds absurd. I'll explain why it sounds retarded later.

But what drives you? Most of you who are reading this blog probably have parents who have good morals and ethics. And of course, it rubs off. Your parents have thought you good from bad and with age, you dig deeper into what your parents "enlighten" you with. Our fundamental morals and beliefs are from what our parents bestow upon us. Like, seriously.

People barely change their basic fundamental mentalities throughout life. That is why, how retarded your childhood is determines how retarded you are now - with the fact that your parents determine your childhood. Of course, at this age, our state of mind deviates from our parents but the original ideas are the same.

Having debates with your parents about states of minds and whatnot brings out the best in you. You learn the best in yourself and I know this sounds so damn gay. lol. Most of my posts are. haha. Anyway, we're at an age where we know whats right and wrong - which is again, is a perspective of what our parents teach us. With our concepts of right and wrong, talk to your parents to determine what kind person you turn out to be.

I'd love to learn your name,
If you could see this side of me,
    ColiNgeow.

P.S Parents are not necessarily the source of our genetic material. I'd say that bears the least of importance. It's what they present to us in the form of guidance, emotion and support that makes them our parents.

    Masks.

Nope, no introduction. Straight to the topic. Ironic, much? =)

It's really interesting how people can really good in masking their emotions. Imagine this, a group of people laughing away, talking about their day and obstacles, etc etc. Although they are constantly having a giggle, an individual or everyone in that group might not even want to be there. Get what I mean?

It's hard to explain. Hmm. A group of 5, talking over lunch, blabbering over petty, useless crap. All 5 of them might not even be comfortable at where they are, masking their emotions towards one another. Don't assume that these emotions are negative - they could be positive as well. Someone having feelings so strong for another, and not telling? I guess that's considered a positive emotion, no? And, you know lah, negative emotions. "!&^%#*, that person, &^@." You pretty much get the picture.

It's sorta like how a father or mother hides his/her emotions for the good of their children. Another way of putting it is, or a general way of saying it is that people hide their emotions for the common good. This is the important part. The common good, is, and most of the time, not the common good at all. People assume/believe that their image of the common good actually is the common good. MOST of the time, it isn't.

That's not the real interesting part.
People say emotions are so powerful and yet people can keep them under control. No? It's the magnitude of the emotions that separates people from breaking down or just keeping their cool. Some people are just plain emotional. There's nothing wrong with that, it's the way they're wired. But it just makes it that much harder for them to cope.

Emotions, emotions. Big word. By not showing people your emotions, you are masking your emotions and sometimes, people just can't tell. The public can't tell the scale of severity of your emotions - be it happy, sorrow, emo-ness.

Moral of the story? Of course, keeping it all in is bad. So, just don't keep it bottled up inside. It's okay to lend your shoulder, give a shoulder to cry on. It's okay to go crazy in public, be crazy with someone else in public. On the contrary, sometimes it's just best to keep it all in. It's just how you weigh things in the end that measures up to how you deal with all the emotions that come with stress, joy, sorrow, bla and blah. You get the picture?

    I don't know,
    ColiNgeow.

    I like it, you don't?

It's interesting how people can have deviated views on different topics. Not only that, a variety of individuals have an even larger variety of perspective. That's what makes us interesting, or uninteresting - if you may, lol.

If you were to assemble a bunch of idiots in a room and leaders of the world in the other, what would you expect from them if you asked them a question? "My car has barely enough gas to make it to the next state. What do I do?"

Which do you think would happen? "Great minds think alike"? So, would the leaders "think alike" and fall on the same conclusion? That phrase doesn't make much sense now, ey? C'mon, great minds think alike? That's so nonsensical. If great minds think alike, then wouldn't we just need 1 great mind to run everything?

If I were to have 10 great minds, I would get at least 10 great and very different ideas. Agreed? Well, I would like to address the idea that everybody has different tastes and voices on everything - which is so intriguing.

No 2 people are the same. Unless they're cloned - and it is possible. People tend to only resonate in aspects of their personalities/interests. In other cases, different people have different tastes. Something that individual A dedicates his life to, could be something individual B hates for a living (i'm just giving an example, lol, no one really hates something for a living).

You understand what I'm getting at, right? Differential tastes in individuals occur in every person on earth - ranging from music, art, tastes in clothes, food. But, that's the funny part as well. Is there anything on earth that is universal? Is there anything that everybody likes?

Well, I thought of a few things that are universally enjoyed and I made a list.
    i) Nothing
    ii) Zilch
    iii) Nada
    iv) Zero
    v) Null

It's weird how i only got a list of words with "Zs" and "Ns" lol. There is nothing that everyone truly enjoys universally as a whole. Universally, people cannot agree on a single general notion.

Give me a chance, we'll dance the night away,
    ColiNgeow.

A year older, A year wiser.

Hakkas will rule the world someday. Meantime, I have 2 hokkiens that are worth every single pixel of this post.

When cash is on the line, after a long night of Hold 'Em, your weakened mental strength, an empty pocket with a side dish of grime xD, is all you have left. Then, you just want to chill with a simple mindless game of BlackJack.

Of course, if you get 21. Hurah! But if you're having "one of those nights" you just turn damn dulan and start swearing. "Kanasai eh, my cards. Seriously KANASAI!"
When that happens, you know the dealer is trying to con your money(eventhough s/he isn't,lol)
*note : flaring of nostrils signals frustration*

Most of the time, it's Jing. BUGGER.
When I "stare cock" at you, you know I want to win your money. HAHA.
    Happy Birthday Yu Jing!
Have a good Birthday. And 1 more thing, Giggs should retire.

Who else is gonna let me ride in their pimped up MyVi and pump petrol 6am in the morning?
With such a "keng chao" custom number plate?
    Happy Birthday, again!

Altitude sickness? Nope, not for this Hokkien.
Who's that up there? That Argentina jersey seems all toooo familiar..
Rakel!! Haha. Good times, good times.
P.S. Just realized, you were quite high up. o.O

    You remember that Rache?
Haha, we were wearing our Santa Hats on the 24th!
Yes, Rache, I know it's a good picture.
You can thank me online later on.
    Haha.
    Happy Birthday Rachel Gouk!!
    *See you at Christmas C'=*

There's not much else to pen down, or rather, keyboard down? Okay fine, that was so damn lame. THE BASIC ideas is to wish you guys happy birthday and to have a great one this year! I can't meet you Rachel, unless I fly over to New Jersey and kick your ass, lol. For you Yu Jing, I'll see you on Saturday lah, okay? I spend you minum Mango Special or wtv la, HAHA.

As fragile as a brown maple leaf in fall,
    ColiNgeow.

    "T" to the "A" to the "G"!

Thank you Teng Li Ying a.k.a Li Ying Precious. lol. For, well, tagging me.

I think I've already done this tag, lol. Just that the tag has been flung around a few times, few, if not most, of the questions have already been altered. I'll do it anyway. Hahah.

Recap on life. I've not forgotten your words Heng! I will update you guys with my daily happenings! hahah. Well, MUSO can practically kiss my ass. The lecturers do not upload the lecture slides anymore. Not even in the student drive. It's bloody hell retarded. How are we gonna learn if you don't pass us the slides? Retarded-ness. On another note, I've done my Chm1011 and Sci1020 online tests. And I can start on Chem tute and Bio Prac.
    On to the tag.

    1. who is your all-time inspiration?
Probably my dad. He had the opportunity to do Pharmacy in Oz. Apparently, he was in Uni of Adelaide and now it's UNISA. I don't know if I'm getting my facts right but that's what he told me. He was really poor but education way back then wasn't as costly as it is now. He lost his father to a disease but did not have enough money to return home. He came home with a degree in Pharmacy years later. High five, Papa!

    2. if you were to be stranded on a deserted island, who are the 3 blog buddies you would take with you? why?
JonMark - We need brains to get out of the island, right?
Jeremy - Three heads are better than 3!
Amy Ho - Everyone needs a bimbo =P. HAHA, kidding Amelia! We need a woman's touch ; )

    3. where is the place that you want to go the most?
Maybe Japan, or Europe. Or Old Trafford.

    4. do you believe in true love?
    Erm. I don't know. Maybe?

    5. if you win $1 million, what would you do?
I'll get myself a car, lol. Probably a Mazda 6. HAHA. I'll invest the rest in real estate or consult my dad, lol. Maybe I'll shop a bit, too!

    6. if you meet someone that you love, would you confess to him/her?
And again, I've already done this question. If I were to "meet" her, I'd definitely not love her. Love takes time, patience and commitment, not just pure lust.

    7. list out 3 good points of the person who tagged you.
Li Ying - Intelligent, not afraid of conventional stigmas of society, a great someone to let your hair down with!

    8. what are the requirements that you wish from your other half?
Requirements? Sounds like something you'd need to enter a course. B for Chemistry and B for Biology/Physics. No requirements from the other half. Probably not being a hypocrite, a thief, that kinda thing. If she were to be that, she wouldn't be my half in the first place, lol.

    9. which type of person you hate the most?
OMG, I've already answered this. I'll think of another answer.
People who are kiasu out of their freaking mind.

    10. if you have faults, would you rather the people around you point out to you or would you rather they keep quiet?
Tell me nicely, lol. Thank you very much =)

    11. what do you think is the most important in your life?
Many things add up to "most". Family, friendship, knowledge. FFK, lol.

    12. are you a shopaholic?
Er, sorta, yeah. But I do not spend money like water, mind you. I shop but I don't buy unnecessary things that I don't use.

    13. if you have a chance. which part of your character you would want to change?
The part of me which is insecure.

    14. what would you do if have an off day?
Chill with a group of friends i feel comfortable with. Laughing away and talking about the good times.

    15. what is the last shocking thing you've seen or heard?
Youtube.com . My sister showed me this dog balancing on its two front legs on a table eating rice off a plate. SERIOUSLY, lol.

    16. how do you feel now?
Slightly relieved. I finished my online tests! Also, lonely, lol.

    17. If you can have 1 dream to come true, what would it be?
Probably expand my father's business being my Dad's right-hand man.. It's not a dream I would commit too 100%. Everything has a price to pay - remember that, kids!

18.What are you afraid to lose the most now?
My family and friends, without a doubt.

    19. What is your ambition?
    Surprisingly, I don't know. =S

    20. If you could be anybody you want for a day,who would it be. Why?
I'd be Donald Trump or Bill Gates. I'd transfer a whole lotta money into my bank account and not work my ass off later on in life!

Beauty, Shmeauty, You look good to me!
    ColiNgeow.

    Beauty, Personified by Emotion.

Damn I'm tired. Just had futsal and I think I need more exercise. Barely halfway through the match, I was already gasping for every molecule of air. I walked back. Yes people, I walked back okay? lol. On the way back, I looked at the buildup of cars on the way home with the sun setting on the horizon. Somehow, all of that was a little too much to take in. It could've been the extra adrenaline that I called upon during the futsal session. I don't know.

And I reached home, I had dinner and took a shower. After the shower, I laid on the bed and stared at the ceiling and tried to picture that moment of "breathlessness" - if you could call it that. Maybe it was because of the rain before futsal that made the walk home all the more enjoyable. Or it could be just be me. Hahah.

Think about the topic. The only reason why something is beautiful is solely based on emotion. I don't think there is any other reason. Call me Mr.Obvious if you want but have you ever wondered how something is beautiful? I bet not. Don't tell me your girlfriend is beautiful coz of her eyes and hair, bla bla bla.. Of course the physical human figure exerts a sense of beauty, probably the most intense, lol, but you're referring to her eyes and hair.

How do I say this, you use a physical aspect to determine what is and is not beautiful but instead, it's pure emotion that's telling you that. There. Do I make sense now? lol, I'm always asking at least one rhetorical question coz I want you guys to understand my post, lol. Not saying "Wtf is he talking about". Haha, back to the topic.

As I was saying, It's pure emotion that explains beauty. Be it human grace, the sweetness of a shot on goal, the mind-shattering landscape, it is based on human emotion. Me, myself would like to give a looong list of what I think is beautiful but colingeow.blogspot.com would lose its "charm"/readers =D.

Human emotion being the very essentials that separates us from the beasts is also what defines us as people. Different people have different emotions, therefore, different definitions of beauty. Something beautiful to someone might not be to someone else. People say beauty is overrated but I say, to hell with you. It only is overrated if the individual claims it is. Anyway, what does it matter if what you declare as beauty really is beauty? =)

Ever heard "music soothes the savage beast"? Of course you have. I'd say beauty soothes the savage beast - but then again, wouldn't music be a form of beauty? Ever heard a piece that just moved you or made you rock so hard, your pants fell off ? ; ) . And of course, there are instances where beauty is over exaggerated. Again, another phrase - "It was beauty that killed the beast", from King Kong. Ironic, really.

AGAIN, I've could have made you guys appreciate beauty a little bit more OR just wasted 10 mins of your life - if I did then, listen to this.
Confucius say, "Two wrongs not make right, but two rights make U turn".
At least you had a joke. HAHA.

P.s Note to readers - beauty comes in many shapes, forms and manifestations. Keep an open heart and your eyes peeled - you never know what lays in the corner of every turn. Also, have you told your girlfriends/boyfriends that they're beautiful? Say it only if you mean it coz it'll make their day. I THINK LA, OKAY? It should. C=

If you did a "super-saiyan" pose, I'd fall for you,
    ColiNgeow.

P.s.s Jeremy Toh Lik-da and Jonathan Mark Lim Guang Wei, if you guys are reading this.. SHUT UP. HAHA. No preconceived ideas, please! lol. Have a good one guys!

    Theoretical Notions.

I've finally finished my lab reports and essays (just not the one that's due in May, lol). Uni's very hectic to say the least. As you complete your assignments with the last ounce of strength in you body, you think that the work you have accomplished would have suffice before the week was over. You sit your ass down on the couch and as your butt cheeks graze the surface of the sofa, the sofa freaking bites you in the ass. @&%!!!. Yeah, you get the picture. We can't really take a breather. Maybe that's life. Life, debatable, subjective, universal. Uni's supposed to depict life so having no time so sit down, sip the coffee and smell the roses should be part of the everyday routine, kua.. lol

A few years back, something tragic happened, I'd prefer not to elaborate further. Back to the topic, I was conversing with my dad some time back, not really sure when though, about life. He had lotsa theories and ideas. One really intrigued me. His theory about old people and being senile. He said that being senile was a part of life and it helps their loved ones.

Keep your pants on, I'm not even half done. He said, when a loved one gets old and senile, s/he loses his/her personality that we grew up around and loved. They tend to have different desires and needs. At times, they get annoying. As their personalities alter, through time, they would've been become shells or shadows of their former selves. After all, what's a person without a personality?

All that's left is a dark, empty, void. Sort of like when an insect sheds its exoskeleton. And, with that emptiness and absence of personality, wouldn't we naturally distance ourselves from them? Yeah, that makes sense. Plus, they get irritating and needy. So, wouldn't we have an unbreakable barrier? Sad, right? And when they do pass on, it'll be less painful for us. That's what my dad explained.

So i questioned him. Wouldn't we miss their personalities as they once were? Their personalities during their glory days, the golden eras. Their smiles, laughter, warmth and company. My dad replied, "Of course.". And i tried to understand which only led to a distraught pool of questions and ideas. With all the question marks boiling inside me, I said, " Ha?" in the most confused fashion.

He claimed that we would definitely miss them BUT don't we already miss people around us? People who are normally with us who are not with us (i.e working overseas, different schedules, forbidding circumstances). This matter is no different. They just "leave" before they actually do.
Get what I mean? They turn senile before they die - as they turn senile, they leave behind their personalities and richness in character.

Wouldn't that be the same as not having them around in the first place? Am I making any sense? Thanks, you get me now. So I got him and I still asked, but that doesn't answer my question, wouldn't it hurt? He nodded his head ,"Stupid question, you think yourself lah". Obviously the answer was yes but how did it all add up?

So I took half a minute to arrange everything in my head and attempted to put them in terms of speech. I took a long breath and blabbered away. I get it now, as they lose their personalities slowly, it's a slower process of losing them, that's why we take it bit by bit and it doesn't hurt as much as if it were to be all gone at once. Is that why they leave, it would be significantly less painful? As when it were to be time, we would've gotten ready for it and its circumstances?

Bingo. Hope you've enjoyed reading my post.

Watching you is a one way conversation, too,
    ColiNgeow.

P.S Thanks everyone! Thanks for wishing be happy birthday and calling me from where you guys are! I appreciate it. Thanks again. I'd make a list of appreciation but blogger.com/blogspot.com wouldn't have enough terabytes of space. xD

Thank you from the deepest edges of my heart,
    ColiNgeow. =]
